Brief Answer:
Cause of headache and treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxx, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Your headache has started after viral illness and your investigations are also normal, so I think it is most probably

- Post-viral illness headache

It is very common to have post-viral illness symptoms. Sometimes, patients do present with chronic fatigue, depression, even psychosis. You are having headache and irritation.

Don't worry about it. It will go away with time. For symptomatic relief, you can follow few tips

- Avoid mental and physical exertion. Give yourself sometime to recover.

- You can do Yoga, meditation to calm you and control your pain

- Avoid bright light, work which requires continuous focus, atop/mobile use for long time.

- You can take painkiller tablets like Tablet Diclofenac or Aceclofenac or Acetaminophen or Paracetamol after proper prescription. You can take them for 5-7 days. This much time will be sufficient for you to recover.

- Use coffee/tea to treat mild headache

- A good 8-9 hours sleep is recommended to get maximum relief.

If still no relief, do let me know or perhaps consult your doctor.
If any doubt, please let me know.
Thanks.
Take care.

Actually, the only medications that helps a little bit is Fioricet. Any thing else you name it, I tried, nothing is helping. What is puzzling. I sleep well without waking up of headaches. After 10 mims.waking up. On Am.headache, stars to pickup.worses during the day. Bitemporal.worst.in the evening
The headache has been there for 2 weeks, is only got better 30%.

Brief Answer:
prognosis of headache and more treatment options

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxx, welcome back

After reading your questions, it is confirmed that it is postviral illness headache. And good thing is it is decreasing and responding to Fioricet tablet (Acetaminophen+caffeine).

But you are still upset due to it. You can also take few other medications after proper prescription

- Tablet Pregabaline - Usual adult dose what I prescribe is 75mg twice a day. It causes some sedation, so be careful with morning dose.

- Tablet Amitriptyline/Nortriptyline with Pregabaline - It is a very effective combination. If no relief with single Pregabaline, try this combination.

- Tablet Duloxetine - It is a type of antidepressant which is very effective in headache.

- Tablet Flupirtine is a very safe painkiller. It is effective when it is taken for 5 days at least. You can take it with Fioricet or other painkillers to increase efficacy.

- Head massage therapy - You can get it without fear of side effects.

For these medication prescription, you need to consult doctor.
If still no relief, do let me know. Thanks. Take care.

Dose Alprazolam or Ativan help at least the irritability?

Brief Answer:
Benzodiazepins role

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxx, welcome back.

The alprazolam and lorazepam (Ativan) are benzodiazepine. They are effective in treating anxiety, restlessness. They can induce sleep also, but can not treat pain.

You should not take these without prescription. These medication can cause dependency (addiction). If you are having palpitations, sleep problems, anxiety, please consult psychiatrist and then start either of these medication.

For pain, better to take above mentioned medication.

Hope it will help.
Thanks.
Take care
