Brief Answer:
Pepcid a good idea; also consider Gas X

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

If the problem is from acid reflux or gastritis, the Pepcid should help. How long ago did you take it?

You may also be having pain from gas in the left splenic flexure of the large intestine. This can give a sharp pain. You may wan to try simethicone (such as Gas X) to see if it helps the sharp pain resolve.

I know it's late, but staying upright may help.

Please let me know if your symptoms are resolving with the Pepcid.

Brief Answer:
Plan for when to be seen:

Detailed Answer:
That depends on how severe the pain is. The Pepcid should show signs of working (at least some improvement) in an hour or two. The dose should be 40 mg/day, either all at once in the evening, or 20 mg twice a day.

You didn't indicate when this pain started so I'm assuming it just started tonight. And I'm also assuming the sharp pain is from colon distention from gas, which can hurt quite a bit.

If the pain becomes severe, go in to be seen immediately. If the symptoms get somewhat better from the Pepcid, give it a few days (3 days) before going in to be seen.

But if the symptom just started tonight, they may still resolve in a few hours.
