Question: Hi. I am working as software developer and am 35 years old. I am suffering with gastric pain these days. Due to work pressure, i did not take proper food earlier days but now i am taking food irrespective of work.
I am getting heart burning and growling(stomach sound) frequently.
My food timings:
7 AM - taking small water
up to 7:30 - excercise (running)
8:00 - Milk with proteinx
9:30 - Idly (always)
1 pm - lunch (always rice)
4pm - Apple and Egg (always)
6pm - Horlics/tea and biscuits
8:30pm - dinner
11 pm - light food.

Still i am getting heart burn pain sometimes. How to control it fully?
If i am taking less food night time's, i am getting hungry around 2AM. What to do this situation?
Can i take milk, egg and more banana (3 per day) frequently?

Please suggest me if i am doing any mistakes here..

Brief Answer:
Take some light food in the middle of the night.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through your query. Your problem seems to be due to gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux. Our gastrointestinal tract has a forward propulsive movement (peristalsis) that moves the food material forward as it is digested, absorbed and finally expelled as feces. If somehow this movement gets hampered, food along with the digestive juices would stagnate, stomach acid will reflux into the food pipe and on the other hand the bowel habits would not be proper and would cause the heartburn that you mention.

It is a good thing that you have tried to ensure a regular food intake but make sure that you do not go hungry EVER, not even in the middle of night. Take anything that does not give you further acidity.

In order to relieve yourself, you need to do the following:
* Avoid spicy food. Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.
* Avoid alcohol intake (if it a part of your habit).
* Take omeprazole once daily before breakfast.
* Take plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like isabgol/psyllium husk or senna. I would insist you to increase your dietary fibre intake.
* Regular morning walk and exercise to keep the bowel movements proper.
* If I had a patient like you I would perhaps have suggested Prodep 20 mg tablet once daily for at least 2 months (it may take time for the action to set in).
* Take curd or yogurt on daily basis. It contains beneficial bacteria and should help.

Hope that helps.

Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
Queries answered.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The answer to each of the questions except for the last one is yes. About pantocid, it is safe travels can be taken continuously without worrying. You need not take omeprazole as it is similar to pantocid.
