Question: Hello, I going to guess at about 18 months ago, my then 73 year old father in law fell off a ladder, but did not seek medical attention. Since then he has chronic pain, cannot sleep on his side for very long and most times has to sleep in a recliner to ease the pain. Probably for the last 6 months or saw he drags one of his feet when walking and his calf muscle in one leg is deteriorating. He is always in pain and has no desire to go anywhere because of it. My husband and I want to help him in some way, but would like to know what the unknown issues might be. Can you offer any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
He might have fracture in hip joint

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case.I think he might have fracture in hip joint or a mild stroke. In both condition there is weakness and inability to walk normally. I would like to know little detail of the illness.
1.Can he walk without support?
2.Does he has any tremors, Diabetes or Hypertension?
3.Is he taking any medication?
Please send me answers of these questions. i will try my best to help you.

Yes he can walk without support. To my knowledge he does not have tremors, diabetes or hypertension and the only medication he takes is daily vitamin supplements and ibuprofen on occasion.

Brief Answer:
You need to get x ray of the hip joint

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would suggest you to get x rays of the hip joint that will confirm the diagnosis. If their is any fracture then we can plan further management. In case there is no fracture then he will need a complete examination of the body by a neurophyscian. if you want then you can share those reports with me.
thanks
