Suggest Remedies For Burning Sensation In The Chest

Posted on Fri, 7 Apr 2017
Question: Hi Doctor:

Having chest pain with burning sensations intermittently but constant yesterday and today. Slightly short of breath. BP slightly on the high side; maybe making myself nervous from the pain thinking its cardiac. Had an EKG 2 months ago and an echo last week. All are fine. I am thin weight and try to watch my diet. Blood work all good except cholesterol 229 as of three months ago. Getting repeat labs in two weeks. I do a lot of brisk walking and try and stay in shape. Would these tests have r/o cardiac issues? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
No it won't rule out cardiac issue

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.

Cardiac chest pain is diffused (non localized), increase on exertion and stress & decrease on taking rest. It is a type of heaviness in chest.
Your pain does not look like a cardiac pain but looks more like Gastritis. I'll recommend taking anti acidity medication. We generally prescribe Tab Pantoprazole 40mg once daily for such patients.

Coming to other question that the tests you have done rule out cardiac condition. Answer is NO.
ECG & echo are tests for that moment of time when you are doing them. Your cholesterol is slightly high but that is just a test to rule out risk factor for heart disease.
If you want to be fully sure & to rule out future risk of heart disease, I'll recommend you for a Stress Echo which is a very good test to rule out future risk of any possible heart disease.
If that is negative, then the risk is very less. So you can go for that.

I hope this answers your query. If you have any more question, I'll be happy to help.
Thanks & take care
