Suggest Remedies For Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea And Nausea In A Child

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: My 13-year-old grandson suffers, almost daily, from nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, etc. He is gluten free and uses Lactaid tablets when he uses dairy products. Sweets are limited and we avoid artificial sweeteners and coloring. His pediatrician wants him to take Pepcid complete for four weeks, just to evaluate its effect. But he tests, using the home test of baking soda in water, as LOW acid--he just doesn't burp. The Pepcid Complete seems to contribute to his discomfort. He tests negative for celiac. He is allergic to peanuts and fish.

Brief Answer:
Thoroughh investigations should be done to rule out the basic cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.

As your pediatrician wants him to go for Pepcid most likely he is suspecting severe gastritis and acid peptic disorder as a causeof problem.

See there are basically three probabilities-
!)Upper gi endoscopy should be done to rule out gastritis, acid peptic disorder, peptic ulcers etc.
2)Colonoscopy and sigmoid endoscopy-to rule the possibility of inflammatory bowel disease.
3)There are several serologic (blood) tests available that screen for celiac disease antibodies, the most commonly used is called a tTG-IgA test.
All these tests should be done to make a proper diagnosing.
As the child is only 13 i don't think (trial and error)method is good for a small kid.Firstly he should be diagnosed properly and restricted diets and treatments should be started accordingly.

In case you have any other query feel free to ask.

Regards
