Question: I HAVE HAD THIS TOOTH THAT WAS BROKEN BEFORE ,WHICH THAN IN FEBUARY NEEDED TO BE PULLED. BUT, DUE TO BLOOD CLOGS IN MY LUNGS WHICH CAUSED ME TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL ER AND STAY FOR 2 WEEKS AND LEAVE WITH A PRESCRIPTION OF XARETTO 20MG. WELL I NEED TO KNOW NOW IF I SHOULD WAIT TILL MY DENTIST COMES BACK FROM HIS VACATION JULT 11TH TO SEE HIM ABOUT ABOUT THIS SAME TOOTH THAT HAS NOW BROKEN OFF FURTHER AND WHICH HAS SUNK BELOW THE GUM LINE CAUSING MY GUM TO BECOME VERY REB IN COLOR WITHOUT ANY PAIN ! THIS TOOTH ORIGINALLY WAS SCHEDULED TO BE PULLED THEN BACK IN MARCH. MY DOCTORS REASON HE POSTPONED IT WAS DUE TO BEING ON XARETTO AND WAIT 6 MONTHS TILL MY CLOTS ARE COMPLETELY DISSOLVED. BECAUSE,I DON'T ACCEPT BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS, SHOULD THERE BE ANY EXCESS BLEEDING. MAKING IT RISKY TO HAVE THIS TOOTH EXTRACTED! DOCTORS SAID WAIT TILL NOVEMBER . THIS ALL LEAVES ME WONDERING WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS TOOTH AND SHOULD I EVEN ATTEMPT TO SEE THE DENTIST MY DENTIST HAS LEFT ON CALL AND WAIT FOR MY DENTIST TILL HE COMES BACK JULY 11TH ????

Brief Answer:
tooth extraction and xarelto

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about a fractured tooth that needs extraction but you are currently on xarelto for lung clots. The xarelto can cause excessive bleeding and an extraction can bleed significantly. I would not recommend having an extraction while on xarelto. Since the tooth is not giving you pain you can wait. There is no urgent need to have the tooth extracted at this point. I would recommend waiting until your dentist returns and get his opinion too.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
