Question: hello doctor, I have 6 month old babyboy...he is taking solid food along with the breastfeeding. One doctor here told me not to give cow milk till one year of age. wanted to know which formula milk we should give him...we use to give nestle NAN pro ..but today saw a news that someone found live worms in it...so just worried that we should continue it or not....which other options are there other than brand nestle?

Brief Answer:
Gradually shift completely to semi-solids, giving top up with breastfeeds

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Let me assure you that breast milk is the beast possible feed for a baby upto 6 months of age. After 6 months breast milk is to be continued along with semi-solid food. Most formula milks are cow milk based and hence not easy for the child to digest. Hence, be it cow milk or formula milks, they are not quite recommendable. Formula milks like NAN Pro have somethings added and removed from cow milk to make it more like human milk and so might be slightly better than giving cow milk directly. I would not distinguish between the individual formulae you can give the formula of your choice. No big deal. You may give Isomil since it is soy based (not cow milk based) but I do not think that is requried. I would prefer giving simple breast milk in addition to semi-solids that you are giving. Basically it is time for transition to adult food and rather than concentrating on the milk, you can gradually shift over entirely to mashed food. In any case, I do not think that you need to change your babyfood based on some report of worms in baby food unless you see worms in it yourself. You can continue what you are doing.
