Suggest Pre-operation Preparing Of Abdominal Hysterectomy

Question: Hello, would you be kind enough to advise? I have been booked in for a total abdominal hysterectomy next Friday and the doctor spoke of a bladder procedure which I didn't quite understand and didn't ask about because I was still reeling from 'abdominal' surgery bit! Do you know what this might be? I'm so sorry I can't be more specific than that. He is a key hole specialist but strongly advised me that abdominal surgery was a far safer option for me. I had an emergency C-section 10 years ago and laparascopic ovary (one) 5 years ago. I was in a ward next to a woman who had had an abdominal and frankly I'm terrified, I know, how pathetic is that!! Each time I think of it I actually feel physically sick and get the shakes, what can I do to get past what I can only describe as 'terror?' I trust the surgeon implicitly so I don't understand this over reaction. I think maybe it's just because I assumed that because my surgeon in Dubai thought I was a good candidate fro key hole I assumed my UK key hole specialist would think the same! Anyway, apologies for rambling on. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. Kindest regards, XXXX

Brief Answer: You dont need to worry so much Detailed Answer: Hello! Thanks for your query. I hope that your abdominal hysterectomy will go very well. Before surgery, a pre-operation preparing is need: -You will need a bowel prep for your surgery The prep to clean your bowel will have to be completed the night before your surgery. -Most women recover and are back to most activities in 4-6 weeks. You may need a family member or a friend to help with your day to day activities for a few days after surgery. -A catheter will be inserted into your bladder to drain urine and to monitor the amount of urine coming out during surgery. The catheter will stay in until the next day. (bladder procedure) -Do not wear makeup, nail polish, lotion, deodorant, or antiperspirant on the day of surgery. Although there can be problems that result from surgery, doctor will work very hard to make sure it is as safe as possible. Take care of your self
