Brief Answer: Best anti-fungal drugs... Detailed Answer: Hi, If I was your caring doctor would ask to do the culture of the esophageal swab during an upper endoscopy and/or culture of sputum for candida together with sensitivity testing. Culture would determine the candida overgrowth; while sensitivity testing would determine the right anti-mycotic drug to use. I usually advise a 1 month intensive anti-fungal treatment, followed by 3, 6, 12 months follow ups. In my experience, Miconazole, Clotrimazole and Fluconazole are the anti-fungal drugs with which I have been treating my patients definitely. I usually do go deeper to find out why my patients are having esophageal candida: - antibiotic use for long term or frequently - low immune system - diet high in carbohydrates - diabetes - dentures I suggest to discuss this options further with your doctor in order to find out why you are having esophageal candida problems. Hope it helped! Let me know if you have further queries! Dr.Albana
