Brief Answer:
Not a must for surgery unless he has any neurological deficit

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Does he have any weakness of the lower limbs ?

According to the reports, he has Tuberculosis of the spine with pus accumulation.

It is advisable to start the medical treatment for Tuberculosis as soon as possible.

Surgery is indicated because the pus is pressing on the nerve roots, especially if any weakness of the lower limbs or neurological deficits present.

If there is no weakness or neurological damage, he can be on trial of Anti tuberculosis Medical treatment and look for improvement.

Surgery is not compulsory as of now unless he develops any difficulties.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu

Answers to your queries

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the reply.

You will have not provided any information if any weakness or sensation disturbances are there.

Depending on that I can comment approximately on the recovery.

Usually stabilisation may be required so pedicle screws and rods may be used.

Usually about 10-14 stitches may be used.

Since biopsy has been done, it is better to wait for the reports and then treatment can be started.
