Brief Answer:
Iron injection is useful to improve Hb%.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I am happy to help to you once again. Followings are my suggestion:

1) Hemoglobin level 8.5 gm% indicates MILD degree ANEMIA in pregnancy and its level should be at least 10 gm% or more to avoid risk and complication.

2) Oral dose of IRON supplement should be increased. She must take a balanced diet, rich in protein and iron. Foods are to be included egg, meat, liver, peas, green vegetables, beans, onion stalk, jaggery, figs, banana, whole wheat etc.

3) IRON injection can be given to increase hemoglobin percentage and body iron store. IRON SUCROSE injection is mostly preferred as it is safe, effective and has less side effects. More number of doses are required.

However, many doctors prefer IRON DEXTRAN injection also because it is more effective and less number of doses are required. But it has more adverse effects compare to IRON SUCROSE.

4) I suggest you to consult with your treating doctor regarding this and chose suitable IRON injection compound. It will be more worthwhile.

Hope I have answered your query. Wish her good health and take care.
