Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,
Thanks for writing in to us at hcm.
This is Dr.Riyanka and I am glad to be helping you with your query.

You have stated you BMR(Basal metabolic rate) is 27. I pressume you meant BMI (body mass index) which is indicates you are overweight.
Please try to eat healthy food and a balanced diet with moderate amount of exercise to maintain the BMI between 18.5 – 24.9.

When a person climbs high altitude,he must make sure he should take regular breaks in between so as to not exert himself and let the body get acclimatised to the ascent.
The cardiovascular and respiratory system needs to get acclimatised hence donot exert yourself too much after reaching 10000ft and above . Performing exercise immediatedly after ascent can lead to pulmonary oedema of high altitude, breathlessness and chest pain.

The diet should consist of high carbohydrate content (more than 70% ) at high altitude.
1. You can take rice and vegetables, oats, cookies, crackers, fruit juices, candy
bars, mashed potatoes, puddings.
2. Avoid too much of meat and oily foods. Carry energy bars made of cereals
containing high carbohydrate content.
3. Also avoid alcohol, smoking and any kind of CNS depressant drugs.
4. Drink lots of water and fluids as you need to be hydrated well.

Try and climb just 1000ft per day once you are above 10000ft. You can climb maximum 3000 ft continously maintaining 1000 ft per day. After reaching the target height donot exercise for the first 24hours to avoid any resiratory distress.

The moment you feel uneasiness in breathing and chest pain kindly descend down and contact a hospital.

Tablet acetazolamide 125 mg twice a day is a helpful medication to be kept as a precaution in case of breathing difficulty. Therefore, kindly consult a physician regarding this medication. Kindly get a thorough health check up by consulting a physician before you plan for mountain climbing.

Hope this answers your query.
