Question: My wife (Age 32 years-first pregnancy) is 20 weeks pregnant now and she is prescribed Ferium Xt and Coecoral tablets. I read on the net the calcium supplements from natural source like coral calcium or oyster shell are not safe because it contain lead content. So, she was taking CCM tablets from glaxosmithkline but it is difficult to get in the market because supply is very less. Which alternate calcium supplement she can take which is safe. And doctor has not prescribe any prenatal vitamins so could you also please prescribe a good prenatal multivitamin supplement having DHA which is useful for baby and mother both.

Brief Answer:
calcimax is what I prescribe.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, for calcium she can take tablet supracal-xt or calcimax.
Both are very good calcium supplements.
For prenatal vitamins and DHA she can take Fol-123 or Fol-G2.

I hope you will get both of these easily. Let me know if you aren't able to find these brands.
Take care and in case you have other options I will be happy to help

Thank you Doctor.

I just would like to know the dose of these calcium and dha tablets in a day how many tablets she can take.

And she is also taking ferium xt which has iron 100 mg and folic acid 1.5mg and if she takes Fol-123 which also has folic acid 5 mg so is it safe to take double dose of folic acid or you would suggest any other iron tablet instead of ferium xt.

Do we need to increase dose of all these tablets as she gets into third trimester or she can continue the same dose during whole pregnancy and lactation?

Thanking you again.

Brief Answer:
same dose advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello, she can continue same tablets throughout pregnancy and lactation.
Feriym xt is a good iron and keep taking it as advised.
She can take fol123 and ferium xt together with no side effects of the extra folic acid.
Daily iron required is 100 mg and calcium 500 mg for whole pregnancy and lactation.
All the best.
