Suggest Better Medications For Controlling Diabetes
Question: Sir, I have been a diabetic patient for last 18 months & at initial stage FBS was 250. I have been taking Galvus met 50/500 mg, 2 tablets daily. Now for the last 16 months FBS is 100 only with Galvus. I have triglycerides from 200 mg to 233 mg. Total cholesterol is 190 only. Doctor here advised me to take Stanlip 145 mg daily. Sir, shall I continue galvus met life long and Stanlip till triglycerides become normal. Or any better medicine with less side effect is available. Thanking you,

Dear XXXXXXX Sir, thanks a lot. I heard that galvus met may cause pancreatic cancer. Kindly advice. whether any other medicine with less side effects are available?

Dear Sir, welcome again. With the long term use very few people develop pancreatitis. Cancer is very very rare.
But every medication has its own side effects. Must weigh the benefit over remote chances.
Please continue the same medication, after 6 months get the hepatobiliary functions and other investigations, we will assess the treatment or change later.
Right now be happy prepare a diet chart, walk at least an hour a day, practice meditation and yoga.
Take less of carbohydrates, more of proteins, Green leafy vegetables, millets, oats. Other fiber rich diet.
