Suggest Alternative Treatment For Parkinson's Disease

Question: I have parkinsons , am on patches. Tablets upset stomach badly ,have i b s too. Patches cause indigestion , manageable . Neurologist wants to send me for endoscopy , I worried re swallowing it etc. before I decide , is there an alternative such as barium meal test ?

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Barium meal test is a valid test widely used in the past when endoscopy was not available and of course it can give valuable information. However I guess you want to know whether it is equivalent to the endoscopy, well it's not. It can miss some small shallow alterations in the walls of the mucosa. Also if it detects an abnormality it still wouldn't be possible to take a biopsy, you would have to use endoscopy for that.
So endoscopy is preferable, if your doctor doesn't have a high level of suspicion and is performing it just in case, then barium test could be done and if normal left at that, but if some abnormality is found you should keep in mind that you might have to do endoscopy anyway afterwards.
