Question: I seem to hve a yeast infection, that will not clear up. doctor has given me fluconazole, and also nystatin, which only inflames it worse.

These difficult infections are called complicated vulvovaginal candidiasis
Treatment of complicated vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection) may involve:(1) a repeat dose of the fluconazole is given 3 days after the initial dose
If this time has passed, it can be used at any time
(2)prolonged course of topical treatment. Cream or ovule of the azole family of medications should be used and given for 7 to 14 days.
This includes meds such as miconazole (monistat) , clotrimazole (gyne- lotrimin), tioconazole (vagistat), terconazole (terazol 7), butoconazole (gynazole-1)
One of these creams can be used for 7 to 14 days along with the repeat dosing of the fluconazole
If there is no response then a swab may need to be taken to determine the exact cause of the infection. There are different types of fungi, so it may be a type that requires alternative medication
