Brief Answer:
Alternatives to Knee replacement surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

I understand your concerns. Other alternatives you can try are weight loss and exercise, physiotherapy,over-the-counter pain relievers and topical creams, Knee Injections (Hyaluronic Acid - helps reduce pain and improve knee mobility. It cant be done if he is allergic to egg/poultry), steroid injections.

If your father's symptoms persists or worsens it is best not to delay the knee replacement surgery as it can cause other problems like reduces the quality of life, deformities etc.

I hope this answered your question.

Brief Answer:
It is useful in early and moderate arthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

Regenexx treatment is stemcell therapy. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on the severity of the arthritis. The innection might be of use in early and moderate arthritis with no obivious deformities. Surgery is the only effective option in advanced arthritis with deformities. This decision is based on your clinical findings like bowing of the knees and x ray findings.

I hope this answered your query.

Brief Answer:
Steroid injections or Regenexx treatment if physiologically unfit.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Whether knee replacement can be done now or not will be decided by the cardiologist. It depends on various factors like what type of bypass surgery was done(single block or triple blocks), father's age(if more than 80 yrs) he is not adviced for a surgery, Heart's Ejection fraction, etc.

I would advice if your father is physiologically not so fit for surgery can try injections meanwhile, it is good to try the regenexx treatment but the results are not guaranteed. I would suggest you to go for steroid injections as the results(pain relief) is better.

I hope this answered your query.

Welcome.

Hi,

You are welcome. 62 years is good age. You can wait for a year and try alternative treatments meanwhile. Yes, discussing with your cardiologist will help.
