Posted on Tue, 5 Feb 2013
Question: I was suffering from headache last night so I asked one of my room mate to massage my back and the neck area and when I woke up today, I wasn't able to move my head. It hurts a lot. I am not able to sleep or do any kind of movement.
I had applied Volini spray but it didn't ease the pain.

Please help me.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.

I have read your query in detail. The symptoms you have described are more likely to be symptoms of muscles strain.

By far the most common cause of a stiff neck is a muscle sprain or muscle strain, particularly to the levator scapula muscle. Located at the back and side of the neck, the levator scapula muscle connects the cervical spine (the neck) with the shoulder.

To get relief from the pain and for quick healing:
1. Do hot fomatation at the site.
2. Apply local muscle relaxant gel 2-3 times a day.Avoid excessive massage to the area.
3. Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation.
4. Do not lift weight or try to do exercise that involve painful muscles. Give proper time for the injury to heal.

If your stiff neck is accompanied by a fever it is advisable to seek immediate medical attention to check for infection in cervical spine or meningitis.

Hope this information helps you. Please do write back if you have any additional concerns.

Wishing you good health...
