Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

Although acute or chronic systemic infections are an absolute contraindication to total hip replacement but having sudden infection like cold or sinusitis when you are scheduled for a hip replacement surgery and a HIV positive status causes a risk to the surgery.

In both the cases (HIV positive as well as infection), the immune system of the body is deranged and hence it may result in post operative complications like infections or delayed healing.

You should consult your surgeon / Anesthesia consultant and go ahead with the surgery only if he permits. Till that time, he can start with antimicrobials for the sinus infection. There are certain ways to reduce the post operative complications and your surgeon would certainly know about them.

Hope this answers your query.
