Question: So this is a bit of a strange question. I am on 20 mg of celexa for anxiety. I have found that I am not at all affected by alcoholic beverages since i am on this dose (as of a few weeks)- i dont drink heavily at all but i do enjoy a glass or two of wine every few days and am used to a slight buzz from the alcohol. However since I have been taking it, I haven't felt any effect whatsoever from it and I am wondering if this is a side effect or maybe just an adjustment and will balance out late. Please let me know thoughts on this. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Individual variation can be cause

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your interesting query at healthcaremagic.

As per my experience with different patients who take SSRI as well as alcoholic beverages around 20- 30 % of them report no effect of alcohol on them while on medication.

However practically speaking it is always better to avoid mixing medications with alcohol as they can have catastrophic effect on brain immediately or in near future. This is because alcohol is CNS suppressant and can cause irreversible damage to brain.

I also like to add that during unavoidable circumstances it is better to skip medication for a day when you intend to take alcohol.

To conclude it can be said that individual variation can be cause for your experience.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
