So A Good 10 Years Ago I Hit My Head

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Feb 2020
Question: So a good 10 years ago I hit my head pretty hard, however I never went to get the injury checked out (I was a dumb teenager at the time). Since then I have noticed a decline in my ability to hear, see, and smell. Plus I can feel there is a noticeable crack running down the side of my skull. So my question is about skull fractures: Is going to have a skull fracture repaired so long after the accident worth doing? Besides the obvious part where my skull doesn't have a crack any more. Like is there a chance my senses might come back a bit? Will I be able to think better?

Brief Answer:
MRI and neurological evaluation should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I don't think there can be a crack anymore because it gets repaired by itself as times goes by.
I think the deformed skull you are having may be caused by the skull fracture repairing.
I think you may need to do an MRI to get evaluated.
The proper evaluation of the situation should be done by a neurologist and he can evaluate if this can be reversible or not.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
