Should I Be Concerned About Torn Muscle While Lifting A Heavy Object?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Apr 2014
Question: Yesterday while lifting a heavy object I heard a popping sound and went to the ground in excruciating pain in my inside elbow bicep and forearm area. It is painful to flex bicep and extending arm is also painful. Basically cant use arm right now. Do you think this is a pulled/torn muscle tendon or ligament issue. How much damage can I do by waiting to see if it improves on its own, and what sort of doctor would be best suited to deal with this issue? Thank you

Brief Answer: Should further evaluated by an Orthopedist.... Detailed Answer: Hi, I have gone through your query carefully and understood your concerns. To my opinion, it might be a pulled/torn muscle which might have affected ligaments and other local joint bones. I highly suggest to get it checked by an orthopedist and to run an X-ray of the joint to further evaluate it. I also advise : - not to move the arm, let is in a neutral position (where you do not feel any pain). Can use a clothing to get it positioned. - apply cold compresses to the affected joint and nearby structures (muscles, ligaments). - take oral otc painkillers to ease the pain until you see an orthopedist. Once again, you might need specialized medical attention rather than waiting to see if improves. At least, you should assure that your elbow is ok. Wish fast recovery! Dr.Albana
