Question: my boyfriend and I are 4 days into being treated for chlamydia. I had a one dosage treatment and he is on a 7 day dosage. We had intercourse(no condom) last night. Will we need to worry about re infection And possibly need to have another dose of medication? ?

Brief Answer:
Abstinence from sex till completion of treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

I would like to know the course of treatment suggested for you?
Sexual abstinence is recommended till the completion of the 7 days course and also a 7 day abstinence following the single dose treatment. Otherwise relapse may likely to happen.
As you had sex before the completion of treatment by your partner, it is better to have another course to ensure a complete cure and you can repeat the test for chlamydia 4 weeks after the completion of treatment to ensure a cure.

7 days was recommended, however he nor I lasted past 3 days. Also a follow up on both of us after 4 weeks. Do I need to wait 4 weeks to see if I still need another dose? or should I just call my doctor and ask for a second dose for myself and boyfriend

Brief Answer:
You can wait till 4 weeks, follow doctor's advice

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome back.

Chlamydial infection is not that acute or has that severe complications. So, nothing wrong in waiting till 4 weeks when you have your follow up. Your physician may likely to have a retest for a cure and assess whether you need another course or not. Till then it is better for you to have a protected contact with your boy friend and meet your doctor after 4 weeks.
Have a good day.
