Should I Be Concerned About Hematoma Discomfort?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2022
Question: another question. Really need some advice. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy next week july 3rd. Two day prep. sun-mon. I had hernia surgery march 13. I developed a big hematoma . I sW THE SURGEN Twice for follow up. I am scheduled to see him again early August for third follow up. The hematoma is reducing but still significant. In just the last few days it has been uncomfortable. I thought it was due yo new exercise program and adding jogging. But is is uncomfortable. Not hurting. Maube 1-2 on scale of 10. I have tried to teach the surgeon. No luck getting a callback from him or nurse. His scheduling staff says any hernia discomfort should not affect a colonoscopy. Dr is planning to use a long pediatric scope. I did not call into the gastroenterologist office. I was waiting for the surgeons office. Should I be concerned that the hematoma discomfort could be a problem and spend the weekend trying to reach the Doctors. My internist is on vacation till Monday. I do not know why this is happening all of a sudden. I can only think its because I started jogging. Bur even today 24 hours since I did a little jogging its uncomfortable when I stand up.

Go through detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

A hematoma is an abnormal collection of blood outside of a blood vessel. Blood that escapes from within a blood vessel is very irritating to the surrounding tissue and may cause symptoms of inflammation including pain, swelling, and redness. So its but obvious that hematoma is going to cause some discomfort. All you can do is to take a anti inflammatory analgesic in case its disturbing you a lot.

Why are you doing jogging or any other form of exercise with a hematoma inside. Simple logic is blood is there in some space. This space contains nerve supply. Whenever you would move or do rapid motions the fluid will move which stimulates the nerves and cause pain.

So take rest until hematoma settles down completely. Just do your normal work.

Thanks.
