Severe Congestion Sore Throat Caused Does My Taste And Smell Will Return??

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Feb 2024
Question: Hello. I woke up last Thursday night with severe congestion sore throat stuffy nose etc. I went to urgent care and the PA prescribed me Metopredisone. Still feeling lousy Saturday morning then lost taste and smell Saturday night. I am very concerned about this loss of taste and smell. I have this bottle of onion powder that I can smell and very faintly I can smell my peppermint essential oils. I was able to taste slightly a breadedcsteak sandwich yesterday and I can taste the cold water so I taste hot and cold. Are these good signs that my taste and smell will return? When I had covid 3 years ago lost taste and smell and it came back within like 4 days. I'm so stressed and do much anxiety. I can't live without taste or smell. Are these good signs my taste and smell will return??

Brief Answer:
It is reversible

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read your query and here is my advice.
Covid usually causes loss of taste and smell but it is not permanent.
Also congestion or blocked nose can cause loss of smell and also taste . This will resolve as the congestion goes away .
Even if it is covid it may require some times for olfactory nerve to function normally so loss of smell and taste is reversible.
Smelling different smells and perfumes may make it better and help improve.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.
