Question: Respected sir, There is a lump(about 3-4cm diameter) on my right buttock since very long( about 15-18 years). perhaps it is not a regular shaped (not fully round/not fully oval). It might has increased a little within the last 5 years and now it might be of 4.5 cm diameter. It pains a little only when it is pressed otherwise it doesn't create any problem for me so I was not worried but now Suddenly a fear came to my mind that can it be anything serious like cancer ???? When I sit for some time then it is compressed in size and then it regains it's original size.

Brief Answer:
it is most likely to be a benign lesion

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for posting your query. I have read it, and understand your health concern.

The lump on your right buttock is most likely to be a benign lesion. I do not think it is anything serious like cancer. It is most likely to be a lipoma or superficial sebaceous cyst, or even just a simple cyst. To confirm the diagnosis, you may go for an ultrasound of the lesion or simply get a FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) done. This investigation will tell us what the lesion is all about.

Hope this answers your query. Let me know if you have more concerns.

Brief Answer:
it is not serious

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for uploading the report. I have read it.

The high resolution ultrasound (HRUS) of the area suggests slow flow venous malformation. Like I said, it is a benign condition, it is not serious. It can definitely be left untreated, if it is not bothersome to you.

You may repeat the ultrasound after 6 months, or if your symptoms worsen, or if the lump increases in size.

As of now, you can leave it untreated.

Wishing you good health.

Regards,
Dr Shanthi E

Brief Answer:
you are safe from cancer, and do not need further investigation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for the follow up query. I have read the uploaded prescription.

You do not need further clinical examination for it. Yes, you are safe from cancer. You do not need any further investigation on this.

Like I said earlier, you may repeat the ultrasound after 6 months, or if your symptoms worsen, or if the lump increases in size.

Forget the worry for now. Wish you good health.

Take care and regards,
Dr Shanthi E

Thanks a lot sir. Your words really made me relaxed. But two things still bothers me.
1. If I am safe from cancer then still you are suggesting to repeat ultrasound after 6 months. Is there any doubt that after 6 months any malignant change might be seen ?
2. From internet I saw that "hypoechoic" means solid or cancerous. I found that term "hypoechoic tortous tubular structure "on my report. So I feared.
Sorry for disturbing you again. Am I still safe from cancer on this issue????

Brief Answer:
Yes, you are still safe from cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your follow up query. I have read it.

1. I suggested to repeat the ultrasound after 6 months to look for any changes in the malformation. Any kind of lesions within human body needs to be investigated every 6 months to look for any changes in them. So, I suggested this as a general rule, and not because of any doubt that it would turn malignant. The repeat ultrasound is suggested as a precautionary measure, that is all.

2. 'Hypoechoic' is a medical sonological term to explain any underlying tissue that is seen more densely on the ultrasound. It does not mean cancerous. It only means to say that something is more darker and appears solid than the surrounding tissues. The 'hypoechoic tortuous tubular structure' on your report is concluded as 'slow flow venous malformations'. They are definitely not cancerous. Please do not fear.

You are still safe from cancer; nothing to worry.

Let me know if you have more concerns.

Take care and wish you good health.
