Question: One night when on the toilet I noticed that the toilet had blood in it and was scared. I waited the next day and my stool was normal with no blood. Then Yesterday as I was on the toilet there was definitely bright red blood mixed with my stool which looked normal although it seemed to be a little grayer looking. I then felt the need to empty my colon that night and nothing came out except for bright red blood. What is going on, is it a hemorrhoid or something more serious? This has never happened to me, I have no pain when passing the blood or stool, the only change I’ve had in my daily life is that I started taking oral finasteride for hair loss a week ago.

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

You have intermittent bleeding per rectum
There are multiple different causes for this symptom that include hemorrhoids, polyps etc.
If you are constipated it could be due to hemorrhoids or diverticulosis.
If the stool is normal, the polyp is more likely
Only with a colonoscopy the source and cause of bleeding can be found out for sure.
You can consult a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Brief Answer:
Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Without knowing the exact cause of bleed, it is difficult to say whether it is self-treatable.
You can check your hemoglobin level.
If the hemoglobin is dropping or if the symptom keeps recurring, you need to see your physician at the earliest.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
