Occasionally I Have Upper Chest Pain From Shoulder To Shoulder.

default
Posted on Fri, 30 Nov 2018
Question: Occasionally I have upper chest pain from shoulder to shoulder. It can be sharp or dull. Sometimes it only last a minute or so and sometimes longer. If it last a few minutes to say 15 minutes I usually experience nausea followed by vomiting. After vomiting the pain subsides quickly. I don't have to be active for this process to happen. I can be completely at rest or even sleeping for this to happen. Although to my disadvantage I am overweight and have Type 2 diabetes presently. I am normally very active but do a lot on my plate as far as stress and responsibilities.

Brief Answer:
Needs further evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome.
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
The pain you are describing looks mostly musculoskeletal but as you have many risk factors like Diabetes, hypertension and deranged lipids, it is very important to rule out the cardiac cause of such pain.
I'll recommend you to get a Stress Test done which is a good test to rule it out.
For people with more than 5 years of diabetes, we recommend to start Aspirin 75mg once a day.
You can also take Diclofenac tablet for the shoulder pain you are having.
Thanks and take care
