Not Sure How I Noticed This But All Of My

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2020
Question: Not sure how I noticed this but all of my toenails have these shallow raised lines. Its barely noticeable. Are you able to see them? Is it normal? I read about something called about XXXXXXX Lines but these go up the entire nail and aren't spaced out. Whats even more strange is they are only on my toes and not fingers. I am dealing with a bit of Alopecia Aereta in my beard. Possibly related?

just noticed the change today. have been treated for the hair loss in the beard for the last 10 months. Getting cortisone injections every few weeks. right now the alopecia is limited to just my beard. just the usual stress and anxiety with daily living. I also have crohns and take humira. have been in remission for many years with normal colonscopies.

Brief Answer:
Nail changes associated with alopecia aereta

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up. I have looked into the attached images as well.

The nail changes you are noticing is commonly associated with Alopecia Areata, which is the localized loss of hair. It is an autoimmune condition.

Managing Alopecia with immunomodulators like cortisone eventually clears up the nail changes as well. If you do not notice improvement over the next few months, then other immunomodulating drugs like Tofacitinib can be added to the treatment regimen.

Please discuss this with your treating physician to develop the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
You can also consider taking Biotin-zinc supplements to help improve the symptoms.

Hope this answers your question
