My Doctor Prescribed Me “methylprednisolone” Because I’ve Been Getting Shortness

Question: My doctor prescribed me “methylprednisolone” because I’ve been getting shortness of breath at night sometimes and he thinks it’s from allergies. It’s been happening less frequently (I woke up with shortness of breath only 2 times in the past two weeks). From looking up the drug, it seems extreme. Should I take it?

Brief Answer:
You should better use other medicine to maintain your symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Hope I can be of help for you today. Shortness of breath at night sometime can be caused by asthma. You should make sure what is the exact trigger that cause you allergy or make you shortness of breath, so you should avoid the trigger. Methylprednisolone is one of the medicines to help your broncho swelling in your lung (when asthma exacerbation) but we use only short time not long term. You should better use other medicine to maintain your symptoms. Such as bronchodilator alone or if not controlled you can use a combination with steroid inhaler better.

I hope that It can help you, and please let me know if you have any clarification or question about that, and I would be welcome to discuss it with you further. I Hope you have good health.
