My Daughter Of 4 Years Had Fever And Pain While

Posted on Sun, 20 Sep 2020
Question: My daughter of 4 years had fever and pain while urinating. She also used to go for urine frequently i.e every 2 -3 minutes. We consulted the paedtrician and initialy a urine ruotine and culture test was suggested and both the reports were normal. In the meantime she was prescribed paracetamol, moxclav DS and Alkasol. The fever receded but other problems i.e pain while urinating and frequent urge to urinate remain. On consultants advice USG of whole abdoman was done. The report reflected features of cystitis and mild UB wall thickening. Thereafter zanocin 100 was prescribed. After taking the medicine there is no pain but frequent urine urge is still there. Sometimes she passes urine in normal quantity and some time very little urine is released and some time no urine comes. These are the problems at day time. After sleep frequent urine urge is not there and every thing is normal. I hereby enclose all the reports and prescription, please suggest the reasons and treatment. Is it a serious problem.
Thank u

Brief Answer:
Continue antibiotic, symptoms will get better with time

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on this platform
I have gone through the details and do understand your concern.
Although the urinary reports are normal, the symptoms , usg finding and response to treatment goes in favour of urinary tract infection.
zanocin(ofloxacin)is very good antibiotic for urinary infection.
I suggest you to continue this for 10 days and then to give cefixime syrup in a low dose (2 mg/kg/day) for 8 weeks for complete treatment and to avoid reinfection.
I hope with this treatment the symptoms will improve.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
No need to worry, infection is limited to the bladder

Detailed Answer:
Hi
thanks for follow up
As per the usg report the infection is limited to the bladder only. The tube connecting bladder to kidney (ureter) and kidneys are normal. So infection is limited to lower urinary tract.
Child also responded to the antibiotic this means the organism causing UTI is not of resistant variety.
In case there is significant past history of frequent uti, the low dose antibiotic needs to be given for 6 months.

I hope this helps.
please let me know if you have any more doubt.
regards
