Question: My baby girl turned 1 yesterday and I'm concerned about her weight. She weighs just 7.3 kgs and is too lean and thin. How do I help her gain some weight. What food habits should I follow? Do I need to give her some supplements?

Brief Answer:
All home foods no restrictions

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
For a one year old the weight you mentioned is less for sure . You need to concentrate on all home foods including cereals , pulses , vegetables , fruits , oil , ghee and avoid all ready made foods .
Anything you cook for adult like idli , roti, kitchdi, poori , all those can be given for a one year old .
Try feeding in small quantities every 4 or 5 hours if she doesn’t take a lot at one time .
Try eating as a family together .
Encourage her to take food and eat by herself from your plate too.
It is better to get her examined for vitamin or iron deficiency also by your Pediatrician who may prescribe iron and vitamin supplements,
Regards
Dr Arun
