Question: My 7 years 10 months old son, height: 4.4 inches, weight: 23.7 kg, has frequent instances of cold (sneezing, running nose), followed by dry cough (with wheezing), that occasionally requires nebulization to feel better. He is picky in eating, and thin compared to peers. Should we give him any supplements or take him for a full body check up? or is this normal for a 2nd grader?

Brief Answer:
Can get basic work up done

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us . From your description he is in low normal range weight , but not abnormal. Frequent cold with wheezing could indicate underlying allergies.
I would suggest following tests blood count, Ig E levels , esinophil count, vitamin d levels , chest X ray and Mantoux test .
You can discuss with your Pediatrician who may add more tests based on his examination findings.
I usually suggest iron and vitamin d supplements ( after blood tests ) which can help in increasing appetite.
Wishing your child good health
Regards
Dr Arun
