I've Had A VERY Minor Discomfort That Comes And Goes

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Apr 2019
Question: I've had a VERY minor discomfort that comes and goes in my lower right flank (more like lower right hip) region for a little over a week. I just had an ultra sound and my ovaries are fine. I'm a runner and when I run I feel nothing. 90% of the time there is no sensation. Eating or drinking makes no difference. I average several glasses of wine a day and I don't smoke. Pressing the area makes no difference. I don't go to the gym so it's not like I did abdominal exercises. I walk and take the metro everywhere in XXXXXXX I'm a 45 year old woman who is used to feeling perfectly healthy (other than allergies) and a bit of a hypochondriac. I have no symptoms of liver, kidney failure or a UTI. It's not easy to see a doctor in XXXXXXX and the sensation doesn't bother me at all but I'm wondering why I have it.

Brief Answer:
Could be bursitis or tendonitis.Use hot water fomentation over the are area for few days and avoid running for a week.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for asking query on HealthcareMagic,
Have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns,
As per the details given by you already an ultrasound has been done and you are pity sure that its not related to kidney.
It could be bursitis or tendonitis(more like lower right hip) region.Sciatica, a pinched nerve, typically affects one side of the body and can cause pain in the back of the right or left hip.
As off now as you don't want to try any medication.Just do hot fomentation over the area for 3 times a day.If possible take ibugesic(ibuprofen) over the counter twice for 3 days and see how pain responds to it.
In case the problem persists then may be an MRI has to be done.
Hope i was helpful,
Follow ups are welcome.
Regards!

I Googled Bursitis and Tendonitis but it appears the pain for those problems are much greater. There is no point taking medication since it doesn't hurt but it's just an odd sensation.
1. How could this be related to running? I don't feel it at ALL when I run but feel it a bit when walking.
2. What's the difference between a CAT scan and a MRI?
4. IF it is a mild Bursitis or Tendonitis, when should the feeling go away? If it doesn't go away within the time frame you will say is normal, I will see a doctor in person.
5. What type/specialty of doctor should I see if I still feel this way in a month?

Brief Answer:
follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for follow up my dear,
Since most of the probabilities were already ruled out by you the only catch in your explaination was that the pain is towards hip and you are a runner which may cause symptoms similar to bursitis sprain or tendonitis(Its not necessary that every case is extreme and presents always with full blown symptoms as you have read on google).
Secondly my dear patient the first rule of medical science is that you need to examine your patient which consists of percussion, palpitation etc.So the main problem in online cases is that we can't follow any of these steps rather we have to read few lines and get a catch out of it.
Thirdly when presentation of patient is atypical as in your case its just a on and off feeling rather then XXXXXXX pain giving an exact diagnosis is even more difficult. "it's distinctly only on the right lower hip" "VERY minor discomfort that comes and goes in my lower right flank (more like lower right hip) region"

Initially you have written that you are sure its not UTI(Was a urine routine test done)?Ultrasound can't rule out UTI.Just for example.

2)CT scan involves 360 degree rotation of X rays and in lay mans language you can say that its an X ray done at various angles ranging from zero degree to 360 degree.
MRI scan use strong magnetic force which splits water inside the tissue and is therefore very sensitive. For e.g if a person has very mild soft tissue injury in that case small blood vessels supplying that area would be damaged(very small blood vessels) hence blood supply to that part would be slightly less then normal soft tissue. On applying magnetic force as blood flow to injured area is less the water content would also be less(blood carry water) so even if there is very mild damage the intensity of image would be different from normal part.
3)Practically for tendonitis or bursitis you need to visit an Orthopedician who would initially examine you.Physical examination of patient is very important.
4)Orthopedician.
5)Medicine was advised as sports injury or soft tissue injury responds very fast to anti inflammatory.
6)However if sensation is not bothering you just try hot fomentation for few days.
Hope i was helpful,
Feel free to follow up,
Regards!
