I've Been Suffering For The Past Year Of Abdominal Pain

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Sep 2019
Question: I've been suffering for the past year of abdominal pain and lower back pain. The pain can start in either place and radiate to the front or back. I've had 2 c-scans, 2 x-rays, and 1 sonogram but the doctors do not seem to be able to find the cause of my pain. I can't get comfortable at times whether I stand, sit or lie down. The pain is sporadic with no rhyme or reason but I experience this just about everyday. I have trouble peeing and sometimes I get chills when I do. The medication ( Tylenol and Ibuprofen) the doctor has prescribe doesn't seem to eradicate the pain. This pain is unbearable at times.

Brief Answer:
need further details and previous reports if available.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my clinical experience, the unbearable pain has to be some sort of
definite origin, which has not been detected till now by clinical work up.

Kindly provide me further details so that I can answer your query completely.

1. Exact location of pain in abdomen, type, intensity.
2. Associated nausea, vomiting if any ?
3. Provide scanned copies of previous investigations as attachment in follow
up conversation, which would prove very helpful.
4. Alteration in food intake, bowel habits ?
5. History of systemic illness as diabetes, high BP or else ?

Awaiting for your response.
Regards.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the details needed.

* As there are ample number of analgesic consumed and even though there
is pain suggest that there is component of exacerbated pain perception
through receptor or neuronal pathway and in many of such cases scans
and rest of the reports turn out to be normal.

* Long term use of many of the pain killers will ultimately make body
resistant to the same and even receptor down regulation mechanics at
micro levels.

* In my opinion, a holistic approach to pain management is recommended
with
- gradual tapering of current analgesics
- meditations done dedicatedly on regular basis
- YOGA
- relaxation techniques
- psychology counselling
- life style modifications
- regular sound sleep of 6-7 hours

Hope this information will help you.
