It Has Been Almost 2 Weeks Since I Fell And
Question: It has been almost 2 weeks since I fell and injured my hamstring muscle, but I still have an awful lot of swelling. It hasn’t gone down much since I fell. I was wondering if this swelling is to be expected or if I should have it examined by a doctor. I have not been to a doctor yet for it. Could you please tell me how long does the swelling usually last with this sort of thing.
I have some pain but most of the time little or no pain.
Brief Answer:
It takes time to subside.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The swelling due to a muscle injury can take 3-4 weeks to subside. Sometimes there is a collection of blood inside. You need to continue with the hot compress and avoid all the painful activities. Since there is not much pain there is no need to worry.
In case the pain or swelling increases then do consult your physician for a detailed examination.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you Dr., just one more question. You mentioned hot compresses. Should I alternate between ice and hot compresses or use hot compresses only?
Brief Answer:
Only hot compress.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Your injury is two weeks old. It is best to go with hot compress only. Cold compress is not needed now.
Hope my answer is helpful.
