default
Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: I am taking Alprazolam 1mg 4x daily half tabs, buspirone 15mg break into thirds 1/3 3x daily & now fluvoxamine.
my psychiatrist also told me to take 6oz grape fruit juice before bed.
I have also been taking about 24 oz red wine nightly.
obviously of concern but beyond a fluke am I genuinely risking adverse or life threatening affect with the glass of red wine at night?

Brief Answer:
Should be avoided if possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

I can understand your concern. You are on antidepressants and benzodiazepines. If we consider alcohol then in low doses it gives some sense of euphoria but in long term it even worsens depression. It is not advisable to take alcohol while on these drugs. Still occasional use will not cause much harm. As wine consists of low amounts of alcohol so risk of any serious adverse reaction is rare.

Thanks, Hope this helps you, if you have more doubts you can ask again

I just wanted to say thank you I'm frusterates SRRIs are given when I have anxiety & PTSD from the loss of my daughter at 12 fays old but the panic attacks became deplitating. The delving out of antidepressants when anxiety is the issue is complex I understand. Thank you, I literally began to have a panic attack and didnt take the 1mg Alpraz/xanax because of having had red wine & will not. I just needed some reassurance I wasn't endangering my life with a casual after dinner glass of wine.

Brief Answer:
If possible avoid using on regular basis

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

Alprax is a benzodiazepine and the drug is a brain depressant drug. Simultaneous use of it with wine night cause serious sedation, so if possible keep a gap of 1-2 hours between wine and medicines. Try to avoid use of wine daily.

Try to relax yourself in this bad phase of time. The loss of yours is really big but you have to come out of that trauma.

Thanks
