default
Posted on Wed, 17 Aug 2016
Question: good evening. do all cases of urinary tract infection in women cause burning?? I have all the other classic symptoms(frequency, urgency, incontinence etc) but no burning. been going on for nearly two weeks without relief. I've had several uti's before but this is the first time there's no burning. is there anything I can do at home or should I get checked out?? thanks.

Brief Answer:
yes it can be UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
If you are having symptoms of UTI but no burning it could still be an infection. There is no way to be sure without doing a urinalysis.
You could try taking ibuprofen (if you are able to use this medication, that is you do not have ulcers or kidney disease or allergies) at 600mg twice a day for 4-5 days and see if it clears up.
If not, you should be seen and get urinalysis and culture.
Also if you develop fever or back pain you should be seen right away to rule out kidney infection or stone.

Hi.

Thanks for your quick reply. Is acetaminophen OK to take instead? I have been advised by my thrombosis specialist not to take ibuprofen due to being on blood thinners after 3 confirmed DVT.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
yes you can try it

Detailed Answer:
Acetaminophen is probably not a good idea since it can interfere with the blood thinners as can the ibuprofen.
It is probably best for you to just see a doctor and get a urinalysis done.
Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water.
I hope you get some relief soon
