Is Uric Acid Level Of 161 A Cause For Concern?

Question: My septic arthritis/gout has not gotten better. Spoke w/my kidney specialist, blood work was done. My uric acid was 161. No further treatment has been suggested. Still unable to walk or put shoes on. Any suggestions?

Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that , I would want to know in which joint your are having septic arthritis . Gout and septic arthritis are two different issues and treatment needs to be tailored accordingly for the same .

Since you are having CKD , medicines used will be very limited , best would be giving a short course of steroids and using tramadol for pain relief for gout . But that may exacerbate your septic arthritis so decision needs to be taken judiciously . Please send me your test reports also so that I can have a better understanding and guide you accordingly .
