Is Treatment Required For A Person With A Family History Of Diabetes?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jan 2016
Question: I am 61 in real good health. I work on my ranch every day. I am 70" and 213lbs. My Dr says I will probably die of high blood pressure and/or diabetes and/or high cholesterol SO he wants me to take medicine for each possible malady. Lisinopril, pioglitazone, pravastatin or Crestor. There is diabetes in my family. My cholesterol is 10 points over the upper value. I've never had blood pressure problems. Is this a valid path?

I've never had blood pressure issues, never.
Sugar 98 from lab test yesterday after fasting for 14 hrs.
Cholesterol 263 from lab test yesterday after fasting for 14 hrs.
I can ride a horse all day and work a tractor all day, I am never sore and Ive been know to fight too!
I do not smoke or drink. I may have a beer once a month and I will only drink half of it.
I suffer from depression, but take no meds for that. I talk to my horses, they don't charge me to listen!

Brief Answer:
No need for treatment

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

In your case I wouldn't go for treatment yet.
If there is a diabetes in your family, it means that you are in a risk for developing diabetes, but it is not mandatory. The better way for avoiding it is follow healthy lifestyle, exercise much, eat healthy food, avoid food containing much cholesterol, not to smoke and abuse alcohol, have normal body weight and avoid stress.
In your case you do everything correctly, you should try to lose some weight and get rid of your depression.

You don't have high blood pressure, or sugar, for high cholesterol levels, t is better to do appropriate diet.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you a good health
