Is There Anyway We Can Stop Pre-vitiligo From Spreading All Over The Body Or Changing Into Actual Vitiligo?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Oct 2023
Question: Family History : My wife was diagnosed with vitiligo in 2015 and her white marks are spreading now very fast.

Question about my daughter: we have been to Beaches and water sports for 2 consecutive days with sun exposure. since last 4 days (the day after we have been to water sports), we have seen the skin of my daughter in little white color.

I am worried if it could be the sign of Vitiligo or sunlight.

Can you please look at the pictures and tell us if it is a sign of Vitiligo to my daughter, who is 11 years of age.

Brief Answer:
Looks like previtiligo

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have reviewed the attached photographs and it is looking like previtiligo which seems to be early lesions of vitiligo.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to apply basic fibroblast factor like melbild lotion on the white areas at night followed by sun exposure for 5-10 minutes in the morning.
In the morning she can apply mometasone cream on the affected areas.
These are prescription drugs and should be taken under the supervision of the doctor.

Brief Answer:
Oral minipulse of steroids is required to stop progression

Detailed Answer:
To stop progression she needs to be given oral minipulse of steroids.
She needs to take tablet prednisolone 0.5 mg/kg body weight per day for 2 consecutive days in a week for atleast 6-8 weeks.
This will stop the progression but it is a prescription drug and should be taken under doctor's supervision.

Thanks so much for your response.

Is it okay to use steroid for 11 year old girl okay ? is it not going to have long-term side-effects ? Other than Oral Steroids , do you think there is any way to stop spreading the white patches.

Is it going to help if she take more healthy food or oral Vitamins ?

Do you think it could be definitely Vitiligo ? or any chances of sun-burn or other skin infections ?

Brief Answer:
Can give steroids to children under supervision

Detailed Answer:
Yes oral steroids can be given to children to stop the progression of disease.
It won't cause long term side effects if taken under the supervision of the doctor.
To stop progression there are other immunosuppressants besides steroids which are stronger than steroids.
Give her a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals.
You can give her multivitamin syrup like syrup vitomin Z or A to Z syrup.
You can observe it for some weeks before starting steroids.
Start with the topical medicines.
Sometimes it doesn't progress and can clear with topical medicines only.
It seems to be previtiligo but to be absolutely sure a skin biopsy is required.
