Question: I've started taking Losartan Potassium for my high blood pressure. Is there a difference from Losartan, Hydralazine, Metoprolol. I took care of my father at one time and he was taking all 3. I'm only on Losartan but I had a reaction of a swollen tongue the other day. What do you recommend?

Brief Answer:
Should change Losartan

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The medicines are different. Usually, choice depends on various patients factors like diabetes, kidney disease etc. Usually, the first choice is of Losartan or Telmisartan or Amlodipine and gradually other medicines are added if bp is not controlled adequately.

Now, in your case losartan was a good choice, but since you developed tongue swelling which is called as angioedema and it's a known side effect of Losartan, it's better to change to other medicine. Now, second choice in you should be Amlodipine or cilnidipine. So should discuss with local doctor regarding changing the medicines.

Also low salt diet, regular exercises, low fat oily diet. Get sugars, lipid tested once.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
