Posted on Thu, 16 Apr 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,

I have done unprotected sex on 14th XXXXXXX 2015 and 16th Feb, 2015.

And on 2nd March,2015 I have done HIV 1 RNA Qualitative test (sample type EDTA Plasma Blood) and HIV 2 real time PCR (sample type EDTA Plasma Blood). Both the results are negative.

And on 15th March, 2015 I did an HIV 1 and 2 + p.24 Ag (method CMIA) which was also negative.

Now I am getting married on 9th April, 2015. Can I have sex with her or do I need to wait. What kind of tests I need to do now.Any tests after 3/6 months. I am really worried, kindly advise me. Thank you

I read and understand your health queries. I am Dr Arun Tannk, infectious disease specialist answering your concern.

HIV RNA PCR for HIV virus 1 & 2 are gold standard tests. Its result after 7 days or thereafter of exposure is consider to be final result.

As you are having a negative result after more than 7 days, you can consider yourself as a HIV negative.

You are safe now. You can get marry or sex with her. There is no need to get retested with other test.

You can ask me for further clarification here.
