Is Recovery Time Long After Placing Hardware Fixtures In Left Leg Post Injury?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: On May 5th I had tibial nail surgery. I thought the dr.s told me the nail would be in my leg forever, unless it caused a problem. I am reading online that it should be removed once I'm healed. The surgery was performed at a county hospital and it's very hard to speak to the dr. My next appointment isn't until July 11. I would like an answer before then. At some point ami going to have to have surgery to remove the nail?

Brief Answer:
It is not necessary to remove the nail.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A nail in tibia need not be removed if there is no pain or any other problems related to it. It can remain in your body forever. In case you feel any pain or infection or discomfort at the entry point of the nail then you may get it removed after 6-8 months depending on the bone healing.
I hope this answers your query.
