Is Rapid HIV Test Done 45 Days Post Exposure Conclusive?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Feb 2016
Question: I have oral sex about 6 weeks ago
There was no ejaculation and it only lasted about 20 seconds. I took a rapid test at 25 days and it was negative. I am totally freaking out that I may have gotten hiv from this exposure. If I take another now at 45 days would it be accurate?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (46 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, very accurate. What generation of test are you using?

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this unprotected oral sex encounter. With no ejaculation, there should be very little chances of contracting HIV. with a negative test 25days after the encounter, I am almost convinced that there is HIV infection from there. If you used a fourth generation testing kit or procedure, then this is certain that you are not infected.

At this time, most tests will give you an up to date state of your HIV status. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I am sorry but I am worried sick. I keep having anxiety over this. The only thing that touched his penis was my lips. There was not licking or sucking of any kind. It was briefly in my mouth and the right out. His precum was exposed to the air a few minutes before I ever did anything. What has me worried is that after I licked my lips and tasted a faint salty taste. It wasnt anything there is the slight taste. I am terrified that could have given it to me. It was the only thing that happened. Is that enough to spread hiv?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (41 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Not enough to spread HIV!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is simply not enough to spread HIV. Be relaxed and calm about this. I wish you well.

Sincerely

Honestly I am married and I had an affair with this man back seven or eight months ago. I am a Christian and I became very guilt ridden and stopped the physical contact. I freaked out about hiv then too but did all the testing at 6 months and everything was negative. I slipped up with him during this episode you are helping me with. I immediately stopped but I am totally terrified. I guess maybe I think God may punish me this time and give me hiv.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (34 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
God will not necessarily punish you!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand the guilt which comes with cheating. However, God will not punish us at the slightest wrong. It is first unlikely that this individual has HIV/AIDS talk less of transmitting. Reassurance is all you need and please, don't freak out this much..
Thanks

I just took another test. It was one day shy of 8 weeks. I just couldn't wait any longer. I am not sure it has helped my anxiety as of now but I am trying. Is this negative result good? What are the chances of it changing to positive in 4 more weeks?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (25 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Unlikely to change!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your anxiety but a series of negative readings is conclusive enough for me. Be calm and relaxed and spare yourself this torture of thinking you contacted an infection.

I have been having severe anxiety for the last few days. As I told you before I had an affair back almost a year ago. I completely freaked out about HIV back then and stopped having intercourse back then. The last time was mid April. Nothing has happened except for the minor episode I first contacted you about. I have taken 7 rapid oral HIV test. One in September, October and November. 2 in December and one so far in January. I have 6 days until 12 weeks for the last episode but I will try to wait until 90 days since everything says 90 days. All test have come back negative. I am completely having anxiety to the point that I feel something back is going to happen to me physically. Testing in January was almost 9 months from any real sexual contact so these negative test would be accurate right. I have taken enough to ensure that right? I know this is very unhealthy and I want to see a therapist or something but I don't know what kind to see. Do I see a therapist or a doctor? Do I need medication or am I going crazy? Can you please answer about the accuracy of the test and advise what type of doctor or therapist I need?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (8 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
The tests are accurate an conclusive that you have no HIV!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

These tests are accurate and conclusive. You have no HIV. The main doctor to see if yourself as you need to stop inflicting pains to yourself. Why is it so difficult to believe that you are healthy and HIV free? I will say talk to an anxiety therapist and that would be helpful. However, the real problem seems to be your fears.

I wish you well.

I am having so much anxiety over the accuracy of these tests. I read where is a chance of having a false negative. I called the manufacturing hot line and asked about it. They said that those can happen it hasn't been the three months or if the test wasn't done correctly. Can I believe that? After seven if I was infected would they all have been negative?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (7 hours later)
Brief Answer:
They could’t have all been negative!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

These tests couldn’t have all been negative if you were not truly negative. Free yourself from this bondage and know you are doing good. There is always a minor room for false results but that is hardly a commonly seen phenomenon. I have not seen one all my career!

I wish you well.

I took another test just now and it was negative too. Sunday would be 12 weeks on the last oral exposure that you said waant enough to contract HIV. Am I really negative? I think I am going crazy. I have never been so full of fear in my life.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Chobufo Ditah (16 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes, you are negative!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

With another negative test, there is really no need for further worries. Everything points to the fact that you are negative. The issue is you denying so in your head. Whether you chose to accept or not, you cannot change the fact that you are negative and that us final at this time. Do yourself some good and stop worrying over what has already been resolved.

I wish you well and hope you find the right frame of mind to settle with the reality that you are for sure negative.
