default
Posted on Tue, 5 Apr 2016
Question: I am suffering from acidity problems and using Rantac 150 twice daily. If I won't take the medicine I feel discomfort. But daily use of antacid is not safe. What can I do?

Brief Answer:
These medicine can be taken for long without or with minimal side effect

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am Dr.Amit Jain (DM, Gastroenterologist).

I can understand your concerns

Since there is grade I oesophagitis which suggest that you do suffer from reflux disease

Medicine like Rantac are relatively safe and can be taken for longer period of time without minimal or no side effects. So you can continue with that for a longer period of time without worry. There is lots of literature that people taking these medicines do not experience any side effects and are relatively safe even used for longer period of time

Apart from medicines what I found very useful in my patients is lifestyle modifications and dietary changes which are as follow:

1. Avoid spicy food, Tea coffee, and citrus fruits and fatty meals
2. Don' lie down at least for 2 hrs after any meal
3. Take small and frequent meals
4. Don't drink water after taking meals
5. Do regular exercise
6. Wear loose clothes

I hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too.

Wish you a good health
Regards

Thank You Sir. Your reply gave me immense relief on my concern. As I said I was taking Rantac 150 twice daily and Festal N at Night, Apart from that taking Telsartan H 40 for BP. When I have getting Palpitation taking 0.25 mg Clonitril as per my Physician ( I am in Rly Service) advice. Is it harmful?
