Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking 2 I-pill Tablets After Intercourse?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: Hi Dr XXXXXXX Gud mrng .This is XXXX. Thanks a bunch for all the help and also for the explanation of the technical aspect. My doubt is it possible that even though the time is very less(4 days after the menses) , there may be still some slight lining present and that may lead to bleeding? Since my bf had ejaculated inside me , I am just being so paranoid :(.

Today its the 5th day of my intake of 2 i pills but haven't felt anything , not even pain. It did happen just once after a day of having the pills but then got vanished. I shall be testing on 20th Sep as you mentioned. Waiting for your reply and thanks so much once again for sticking by my side.

Brief Answer:
slight bleeding or spotting may be there.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear XXXX,

In early days of menstrual cycle, the endometrial lining is being made in uterus.

The bleeding normally occurs when the endometrium is proliferated fully. The hormonal changes at the end of cycle cause bleeding.

Now, the ipill contains the same hormones which cause bleeding.
But as the lining would not be made in uterus in initial days of cycle, this decreases the chances of bleeding. Although there may be some bleeding or spotting.

You can also go for blood beta HcG levels 7-10 days after intercourse (at around 11 September). This will clear the status of pregnancy.

Hope this lessens your anxiety.

Take care and do not worry.
Thanks.

Thansk so much! So I should wait till for next few days about bleeding else I should be going for the blood test on 12th Sep? And as it is written on many places at internet, if no bleeding then it means pregnancy or if it does bleed than no pregnancy-it is a wrong statement or understanding? right? Having withdrawal bleeding or not, should be not important?

Brief Answer:
can go for blood test.

Detailed Answer:
In my opinion, you should wait for some more days.
You can go for blood test on 12th sep.

I would request you to not go by things given on internet. Its good to gain knowledge but please trust a genuine medical advice. The more you will search on internet, the more confused you will be.

Withdrawal bleeding after ipill almost confirms that there is no pregnancy. But also, absence of bleeding does not mean that there would be pregnancy.

As you have taken two pills, the hormone content would be high in body. This might be another reason for delay in bleeding.

So, I would request you to not worry.

And, I am always available for your queries :).

Take care dear.

Yes, my bad. I am just not doing anything except just doing head-hunting over many many things :( . I am so sorry. Didn't mean to disrespect your advice or the immense help you are giving :(. I am just being so tensed. My bf is also so mad at me cos I am asking him tens of questions.

I was trying to remember what me and my bfd did after the intake of hte pill . And all I can recall( and my bf told me repeatedly) was the fingering only. He didn't insert again (god bless him for that) . So that's fine right?

Okay so I shall be having the test on 12th. Should I go for a home test or should I go to some lab for it?

I am so sorry. you must be laughing and getting so irritated with the silly questions of mine but I am really really tensed. I knwo it's just our fault that we hadn't used a condom :( . **banging head on the wall**.

Brief Answer:
have to go to a lab for blood test.

Detailed Answer:
Oh dear..
I am not laughing on your questions at all.
I can completely understand how tensed you must be. So be assured that I will always try to help you with best of my knowledge.

I did not mean that you were disrespecting my advice. I wanted you to avoid googling unnecessary things which could further increase your anxiety.

After the penetration he just fingered you. So that should not be a problem.

You have to go to a lab for the blood test. Ask them for blood beta HCG test.

Please feel free to ask any further questions.
Keep me updated with your condition.

Thanks.

Thanks so much for being so helpful and understanding. I won't do the googling anymore. I guess my mind would burst if I shall do any more reading stuff from internet.

I shall go for the test on 15th Sep. it's still 8 days to go and to tell you honestly, every day feels so long. I amnot sure if you have seen anyone more whining and tensed than I am :( .

One question that I am thinking( I am sure you are not surprised) , I had two i-pills together. So that may delay the bleeding, won't fasten it? I thought having two pills would be more aggressive :( . I was wrong?

I shall definitely keep you updated. Please take care of yours and thanks so so much for the support, I can't tell you how greatful I am and how much it means to me! Truly, I mean it!

Brief Answer:
you are most welcome

Detailed Answer:
You are sincerely welcome dear.

Two ipills means more hormones. More hormones means more hormonal imbalance in the body. More imbalance means it may take more time to bleed and the bleeding may be heavier (if present).

Anyhow, whatever happened has happened. Lets move forward.
I would again advise you to stay relaxed. I am still of the opinion that there are negligible chances of pregnancy.

Hope to hear from you after the test reports.

Thanks and I wish you all the good luck.

May god bless.

If feasible, kindly close the discussion for now. You feedback will mean a lot to me.

Regards.

Oh!

so does it mean pregnancy due to the last intercourse? Sorry, my mind is just fried.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Nidhi Setia (15 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
it does not mean pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
No it does not mean pregnancy.

Some literature reports suggest it to be due to hormonal imbalance caused by ipill.

But I am of the opinion that this is more indicative of you approaching ovulation.

Take some deep breaths dear and relax.

Drink a glass of cold water.

Thanks.

I just has water :(.

Yeah I have read about that too.

But I took the pill. How can I have the ovulation? Shouldn't I have the bleeding?

And now I am having this lower back pain along with bleeding. And body pain! Bleeding is not constant and heavy though. :(

Brief Answer:
painkiller and tablet tranexa is advisable.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

So finally you are bleeding. That is withdrawal bleeding. It indicates that drug has worked.

I advise that you should take pain killers like ibuprofen tablet to decrease pain and tablet tranexa in case of heavy bleeding.consult your gynecologist. (Prescription drug)

Do not avoid in case of heavy bleeding.

Mostly you will get your period on your expected date.report to doctor if you do not get it within 7-10days of your date. Chances of pregnancy is very less as you had intercourse in safe period and you had I-pill within 72hours.

Keep calm.do not take worry.

In my opinion you are safe.

Hope it lessens your anxiety.

Feel free to ask further.
Thanks.

Good morning Dr.!

So is it a good sign? I took the medicine (Combiflame) in the night at 1am cos of the pain. Pain is still there and also the bleeding. Is it a good sign that now the bleeding is there? Does it makes the pregnancy chances void?

What if the menses are going to be late than the expected time (25-26 Sep) ?

Thanks so much for sticking with me in this so tensed time. just got up and saw your message, was waiting for the reply so eagerly.

Brief Answer:
bleeding dismisses any chances of pregnancy.

Detailed Answer:
Good morning dear.

Yes its a good sign that you are bleeding.
This dismisses any chance of pregnancy.
So you are completely safe now as far as pregnancy is concerned.

Menses might most probably be delayed as you are bleeding now.

Menses will regularise in 2-3 months.
Do not worry about it. Irregularities in menstrual cycle are usual after ipill as it contains high dose of hormones. This hormonal imbalance cause altered menstrual cycle.

Hope you are much relaxed now.

I am always available to help, now and in future as well.

Take care.
