Is Oraquick HIV Test Conclusive Six Weeks Post Exposure?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Aug 2015
Question: I am 6 weeks out from possible exposure to HIV. I performed oral sex on a man, no ejaculation in my mouth. I have not had any symptoms. I took 3 Oraquick tests over last 3 days. All negative. Should I be concerned about HIV infection?

Brief Answer:
You seem to be safe now.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
In your case, the chances of getting HIV are very remote. See, HIV can occur through oral sex, though chances are very less but yes, once can contract of the partner is HIV positive.
Since you have got your test done after 6 weeks of exposure, you had already crossed the window period at the time of getting the test. So, after 6 weeks, if you are negative for HIV, you are not HIV infected as we consider a negative test after 6 weeks of exposure, that too low risk exposure in an asymptomatic individual as negative test.
So, just relax, and promise yourself that you will not repeat the activity again.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
Get Elisa HIV test done

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Every test has it's limitations and so Oraquick also has.
You can go to a laboratory and ask for Elisa HIV 1 & 2 test which has high specificity and sensitivity.
