Is Negative HIV Test After 9 Month Of Sexual Encounter Conclusive?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Feb 2015
Question: I had a one time risk in my opinion. I had vaginal sex with a CSW and after the intercourse had a fresh cut on my penis that may not have been covered by the condom. Friction cut that I hadn't noticed until after cleanup. I tested for all stds at 3 months all negative. I took 7 oraquick home hiv test all negative starting from 2.5,3,4,5,6,7, til 9 months. I've never had these issues before this sex exposure. Folliculitis started two weeks after the exposure at edge of hairline of neck. I asked my doctor and she said everything is okay that these are common skin conditions. Would this be enough testing to be in the clear from Hiv?? I'm married and scared, stressed all the above.

Brief Answer:
You are safe and don't need to test any more

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

This is enough of testing to ascertain beyond any doubt that you are negative for Hiv and you don't require any further testing for HIV from this particular exposure.

Three months time is taken as the upper limit of time after a risky sexual encounter, by when circulating antibodies usually become detectable in those who are infected with Hiv.

In fact majority of those who are infected with Hiv have detectable circulating antibodies within a month of infection.

Since your tests at 3 months and even beyond have been negative, therefore, there is no need for any further testing.
